Why a bookstore?

 I cannot imagine my art without books and the information gained by growing my imagination as a young child. That is why Jenny Sarabia Portraits, LLC is powering Latina Journey. I want to help foster the interconnection between art and books. Without books and reading, my life would be drastically different. Personally, I believe that the key to a successful life is directly related to one's ability to read and enjoy books. A secret to success. Books saved me and paved the way to a future beyond my imagination. I graduated high school. I have a BA in Latin American Studies. I have a Master's Degree in public policy and a Law Degree from IU. I worked for a Governor, Senator, US House Representative and had the honor to be a political appointee for President Obama. How was this possible for a first generation, free lunch and bused to school student? I love to read! Plus, prayers.

What kind of books?

We will highlight Latina experiences that may not be brought to the forefront in most book stores so we will offer books written by Latinas. In addition, this bookstore will focus on women authors and their stories. We will be inclusive and advocate for diversity. Yes, you will find typical mainstream literature, but our hope is that you will find our curated books to broaden perspective. Mostly, we want to make sure these stories are easily available and affordable. This bookstore is mostly pre-loved books with a few new books too. Some other curated books include: Dogs, Christian Literature, Romance, Thriller, YA and usual fiction & non-fiction. All to have a positive and fun environment.

Where is this bookstore?

We are a mobile & pop-up bookstore in Illinois. Our trailer is currently being designed and built. Our tent is ready for all the events and we are already scheduled for a few. We also host pop-up events in the Jenny Sarabia Portraits, LLC studio on specific days. If you have an event that you would like for us to join please contact us to schedule.

Can you donate books to us? 

Yes, please. We have not received any donations and have curated this collection independently so if you want to share and contribute to this journey it would be greatly appreciated. If you have books in Spanish even better! Books that represent diversity and inclusion best yet. We need you!
